It simply means I salute you!! But in Indian culture we bow to salute. So it was put like that in translation. Feeling of motherland and feeeling of doing something for her comes within you as soon as you listen to this great poetry. In reality Vande Maataram which was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee was actually composed by Rabindranath Tagore. The raga was "Desh". He sang Vande Mataram in 1896 at the Calcutta Congress Session held at Beadon Square.It was a slow number. In 1907, Bhikaiji Cama (1861-1936) created the first version of India's national flag (the Tiranga) in Stuttgart, Germany in 1907.
